Hope Love Live with THGC

Dear friends and family it is with disappointment that we have had to POSTPONE our Hope, Love, Live concert. Due to some members testing positive for the coronavirus we have decided to call off the concert on Sunday 5th September 2021 and reschedule for a later date. Thanks for the support you’ve given us and we look forward to saying “we’re back!” very soon… Thanks to the many who have bought tickets; we will be offering you a refund or reallocation for the next gig.

Town Hall Gospel Choir

“Simply stunning! Colin Anderson not only had the choir in the palm of his hand but the audience from all over Europe on the very edge of their seats – Awesome!” – Greg Laskowski, Director of MRF International Choir Festival, Paris.

About Us

We are a group of singers and friends from in and around The Midlands area at the heart of the United Kingdom. We are passionate as well as committed to sharing the power of love and music in our uplifting style of singing...a sound that guarantees to resonate in people’s hearts.

From the re-opening of the Birmingham Town Hall in 2007 it had become obvious that something very special had been created which deserved to be continued. The choir had been formed to perform a full live version of ‘Handel’s Messiah: A Soulful Celebration’ under the directorship of Ken Burton. Singers were initially auditioned and trained by Ken and Black Voices. But it was in 2008, following the appointment of Colin Anderson as the Choir Director that Town Hall Gospel Choir was formally established as a community gospel choir, whose ranks have grown to nearly 40.

We celebrate 10 years of sharing a passion for singing with people from all walks of life. Performing at varied events from hospices to weddings, churches to festivals and shopping malls to train stations. Sharing the stage in grand-scale productions and musical collaborations with national and international stars.

In 2012, THGC performed with Aswad’s Brinsley Forde and Jazz Jamaica All Stars. The choir also provided the soundtrack to the spectacular outdoor production of The Voyage by Motionhouse.

Other notable projects include performing with Sir Willard White OM, CBE, the late, great South African trumpeter Hugh Masekela, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Britain’s finest female a cappella quintet Black Voices, and international gospel artistes Harlem Gospel Choir as well as Muyiwa & Riversongz.

Winning the coveted and inaugural title of Songs of Praise Gospel Choir of the Year in 2013 and GXMMA Gospel Choir of the Year Award in 2014 has been such an honour and we are grateful for every blessing stemming from these achievements.

Nationally, the choir has performed on BBC television several times, and has been heard on regional (BBC WM, Heart FM West Midlands) and national radio (BBC Radio 3, BBC Radio 4).

In 2014, the choir travelled internationally with our first visit to France to perform an International Choir Festival and on the strength of that performance was invited to return to perform in Paris the following year. A year later, the choir sang in Portugal on invitation once more from interest garnered at that first performance in France.

2018 saw us partnering with ADM Productions to revisit the ‘Handel’s Messiah: A Soulful Celebration’ project in Wiltshire that was a tremendous success.

In December of 2018, THGC celebrated our 10th Anniversary with style in 2 parts. Evidently, the choir as well as our audience were moved from the VIP pre-reception to our gala concert performance. The event allowed us to show how marvellously blessed our first 10 years together has been. We reminisced on our classic songs and arrangements in true THGC style and showcased what the future has in store.

Membership is by audition, a friendly and informal setting. Potential members should have experience of gospel or choral singing and the ability to read sheet music is an advantage but not essential.
